I assumed Grand Cayman was one of those islands where you either spend a fortune or you don’t go.
The hotel prices did nothing to talk me out of it.
Then we found a loophole.
One IHG credit card, four free nights at Hotel Indigo on Seven Mile Beach, and about $2,600 saved. (We paid the resort fee, and nothing else.)
That turned five days in Grand Cayman from “maybe someday” into “booked.”

Grand Cayman is the biggest island in the Cayman Islands, and where most trips start.
Here’s exactly where to stay, which part of the island is worth it, how we got our room covered, and what I’d book if you’re paying cash instead.
Use the Grand Cayman map below as you read to compare live prices.
Quick Picks: Best Places to Stay in Grand Cayman
- Our pick (and where we stayed): Hotel Indigo
- Best quiet beachfront: Kimpton Seafire
- Best beachfront for walking to Camana Bay and for families: Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort
- Best splurge: The Ritz-Carlton
- Best budget with breakfast: Hampton by Hilton or The Locale
- Best budget with a kitchen: Sunshine Suites or Seven Mile Beach Resort & Club
How I’d Choose Where to Stay in Grand Cayman
Our own decision was easy, because IHG points made it for us (& we wanted to stay at the newest IHG hotel here).
If I were paying cash, though, I’d work through it in this order, since each answer crosses a few hotels off the list.

1. Start With the Rental Car Question
Everything else about where to stay depends on this one decision.
Seven Mile Beach is the most popular and most walkable part of Grand Cayman, but it’s a long strip, and where you stay along it matters.
Without a car: the middle of the strip is the easiest base. Hotels like The Locale, Hampton by Hilton, and the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort are about half a mile from Camana Bay, the open-air town center with restaurants and shops, so it’s roughly a 10-minute walk. You’ll have the most going on within reach, but you’ll be limited to what’s nearby or to taxis for restaurants and sights in other parts of the island.
With a car: you can stay anywhere on the strip and still get everywhere. We stayed at Hotel Indigo on the quieter northern stretch of Seven Mile Beach, toward West Bay. Camana Bay is about a 48-minute walk and West Bay about an hour, but both are only a short drive.
We rented a car for about $20 USD a day and drove all over the island, since our itinerary had us in different areas each day.
For us, it was well worth it. The tradeoff is that you give up some of the walk-everywhere convenience of the middle of the strip in exchange for a quieter beach.

Two things to know if you rent:
- The airport is only 10 to 20 minutes from most Seven Mile Beach hotels.
- Grand Cayman drives on the left, which takes about a day to feel normal if you’re used to driving in the U.S.
2. Then Decide How Much the Sand at Your Door Matters
Hotels in Grand Cayman use three terms that sound similar but mean different things:
- Beachfront: the hotel sits right on the sand.
- Beach access: you walk a few minutes, sometimes across a road, to reach the beach.
- Waterfront: can mean the North Sound, which is pretty water but not Seven Mile Beach. (The Holiday Inn Resort is an example.)
We chose beach access at Hotel Indigo and would do it again.

We walked to the sand from the hotel, and we spent plenty of days beach-hopping by car anyway.
If the beach is your whole trip, beachfront is worth paying for. But if you’ll be out exploring, the savings can cover some of the excursions you came for.
If you go with beach access, check:
- Whether beach chairs are included
- Whether you can charge food and drinks to your room from the beach (at Hotel Indigo you can from the pool and on-site dining, but not the beach club)
- Whether you’ll have to cross a busy road
3. Next, Check Your Points
Traveling with points has been a bit of a cheat code for us.
Over the years, it has opened doors to more destinations and more trips than we could have afforded otherwise.

It’s only worth it if you’re responsible with your credit, though.
Going into debt to travel never makes sense, but if you already pay your cards off in full, points can be pure freedom.
Grand Cayman has properties from several major hotel programs, so check whichever one you collect. Two of the biggest are:
- IHG: Hotel Indigo, the Kimpton Seafire next door, and the Holiday Inn Resort
- Marriott Bonvoy: Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, the Westin, and The Ritz-Carlton
- Hilton Honors: Hampton by Hilton
The hotels above are some of the best places to stay with points in Grand Cayman, and points are the reason we stayed at Hotel Indigo.
Four nights cost us points we earned from a sign-up bonus, plus a resort fee, and nothing else.
At cash rates, our December stay would have been about $2,600 USD. I wrote up exactly how we booked it in our Hotel Indigo review.
4. Last, Picture Your Days
Think about how you’ll actually spend your time.
- If you’ll be out exploring most days, like we were, a beach-access hotel or a smaller property usually makes more sense, since you won’t use a resort’s pools and kids’ clubs much.
- If the hotel is part of the trip, with pool days, a spa, and a lounger ready when you arrive, a beachfront resort earns its price.

To recap: car or no car, beachfront or beach access, points or cash, and how much time you’ll spend at the hotel. The sections below are organized by the kind of stay you land on.
Beachfront Resorts on Seven Mile Beach (Best for Sand at Your Door)
We’ve only stayed at Hotel Indigo, so treat the hotels in this section as research, not reviews.
I pulled together what each one offers and where it sits on the beach, so you can tell quickly which one fits.
The map above shows live rates for your dates, and most resorts here add a daily resort fee, so check the total before you book.
Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa
Best for: A stylish beachfront stay with a spa. Where: The quiet north end of Seven Mile Beach, next to Hotel Indigo.

Kimpton Seafire opened in 2016 as Kimpton’s first hotel in the Caribbean.
It has ~260 rooms and suites, all with private balconies, plus two oceanfront pools, a full spa, a kids’ club with a splash park, and several restaurants.
It’s family-friendly, but it has a calmer, more design-forward feel than the big resorts in the middle of the strip.
It’s a great fit if you want the sand at your door without the crowds, or if you’re using IHG points.
It’s less convenient if you want to walk to Camana Bay.
We drove to Camana Bay from Indigo (which is next door), and you’d do the same from here.
Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort
Best for: Families and Marriott points collectors who want to be in the middle of everything. Where: West Bay Road, in the middle of the strip.

The Marriott has ~300 rooms (renovated in 2024), a pool, a small spa, several restaurants and bars, and a kids’ club for ages 5 to 12 that costs extra.
It’s roughly a 10-minute walk to Camana Bay.
Its beach was restored in summer 2026 and offers complimentary chairs and umbrellas for guests.
It’s a great fit if you want to walk to dinner and shopping, or you’re traveling with kids.
It’s lively and popular with families, so if you’d rather a calmer feel, look at the Seafire instead.
The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa
Best for: A classic resort stay with a spa and a kids’ club. Where: West Bay Road, with about 800 feet of beach. Camana Bay is a drive or a long walk.

The Westin has rooms across five floors, a pool, the Hibiscus Spa, a 24-hour fitness studio, a Westin Family Kids Club, and several restaurants, including Woto for sushi, ceviche, and poke.
One thing to check when you book: rooms face different directions.
Some have a partial view of Seven Mile Beach, while others look toward the interior of the island or the golf course, so choose your view on purpose.
It’s a great fit if you want a polished beachfront resort or collect Marriott Bonvoy points.
If walking to Camana Bay matters, the Marriott is the closer of the two.
The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman
Best for: Milestone trips, golf and tennis, and families who want a waterpark. Where: West Bay Road, roughly 15 minutes from the airport.

The Ritz-Carlton sits on 144 acres, with ~360 rooms and suites, two pools, a kids’ waterpark, a spa, a Greg Norman-designed nine-hole golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, and several restaurants.
Beach cabanas cost extra.
Families can join a kids’ eco-adventure program designed with Jean-Michel Cousteau. The whole resort was renovated in 2020.
It’s a great fit for a honeymoon, an anniversary, or any trip where the resort itself is part of the plan.
If you’ll be out exploring most days, you’ll use less of what the Ritz offers.
While we were on our Stingray City tour, our guide mentioned to us that The Ritz-Carlton is actually the most expensive hotel on the entire island!
So, keep that in mind.
Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman (Where We Stayed): Best for Points and a Quiet Base
Best for: Couples and points travelers. Where: The quiet north stretch of Seven Mile Beach, next door to the Kimpton Seafire.

We stayed four nights on points plus the resort fee, and I’d book it again. (Here’s how we booked it).
My favorite part was Pom Pom, the rooftop bar, at sunset. Reserve ahead!
We walked up right before sunset and got seats at the indoor bar, and the big windows saved us.
Our room looked like it came straight off my Pinterest board of home aesthetics.

It isn’t beachfront, but Seven Mile Beach was about a three-minute walk across the street, and that was fine for us.
Guests also get access to Bonny Moon Beach Club, which we didn’t use, and I low-key regret that.
If you’ll have a rental car and want a calm, stylish base for exploring, this is the one I’d book again.
If you want to step out onto the sand, the Kimpton Seafire next door is the beachfront option.
Budget-Friendly Stays Near Camana Bay (Best for Dinner and Beach Walks Without a Car)
These two sit in the middle of the strip, close to the beach and within walking distance of Camana Bay, and both advertise free breakfast, so confirm your rate includes it.
If you’re not renting a car, this is the stretch of Seven Mile Beach I’d pick.
The Marriott from the beachfront section above is another walkable option if you’d rather be on the sand.
The Locale Hotel
Best for: A quiet, modern stay with a saltwater pool and cooked-to-order breakfast. Beach: About a 3-minute walk. Where: West Bay Road, about 9 minutes’ walk from Camana Bay.

The Locale has soundproofed rooms, a saltwater pool, a restaurant on site, and beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels for the sand.
Peppers, where we had our Saturday-night dinner, is right across the street.
This wouldn’t be a good fit if you’re traveling with a dog since they do not allow pets.
But it’s a great option for couples and anyone who wants to walk to the beach, to Camana Bay, and to dinner without a car.
Hampton by Hilton Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach
Best for: Free breakfast, easy beach access, and walking to Camana Bay. Beach: A 1 to 2 minute walk. Where: Piper Way, just off West Bay Road.

Hampton has 120 rooms, a garden pool with an on-site restaurant, a free breakfast buffet every morning, free bike rentals, free parking, and a free shuttle to nearby beaches.
Its watersports concierge can arrange snorkeling and boat trips to Stingray City.
It’s not the one if you want a big resort with lots of on-site extras.
But, it’s a great fit for travelers who want a simple, well-located base, and for families (the hotel advertises that kids 17 and under stay free, so confirm the current policy when you book).
Suites and Condos With Kitchens (Best for Families and Longer Stays)
Cooking a few meals is one of the easiest ways to stretch a Grand Cayman trip, and these two make it simple.
We cover where we ate out, and what it cost, in our where to eat in Grand Cayman blog, so you can decide how many dinners you’d rather cook.
Sunshine Hotel and Suites
Best for: Space, a full kitchen, and access to the Westin’s pool and beach amenities. Beach: About a 4-minute walk. Where: Across the road from the Westin, which is its sister hotel.

Sunshine Suites has ~130 suites and many come with kitchen setups.
Studios and standard rooms may only have a kitchenette or wet bar, so confirm the room type before you book if cooking matters to you.
The resort fee includes beach loungers and towels, plus pool access at the Westin across the street.
Restaurants are walkable from here.
It’s not the one if you want a classic resort feel on the property itself.
But it’s a great fit for families, groups, and longer stays where cooking makes sense.
Seven Mile Beach Resort & Club
Best for: Condo-style space for families or longer stays. Beach: About a 3-minute walk. Where: Piper Way, about 11 minutes’ walk from Camana Bay.

Seven Mile Beach Resort & Club is a small property with just 38 units, mostly two-bedroom condos with full kitchens and washers and dryers, plus a pool, a kids’ pool, and a tennis court.
Pets aren’t allowed.
It’s not the one if you want daily hotel services and restaurants on site.
But it’s a great fit if you want a home-away-from-home with room to spread out.
Holiday Inn Resort: A Calm, Budget-Friendly Alternative on the North Sound
Best for: Travelers with IHG points who want a quiet stay and a free shuttle. Beach: Its own small beach on the North Sound, with Seven Mile Beach about a 5-minute drive away. Where: Crighton Drive, on the North Sound side.

The Holiday Inn Resort is small, with 82 rooms on about six and a half acres, one pool with free cabanas, and a bar and grill on site.
It runs a free area shuttle every hour to places like Camana Bay, Seven Mile Beach, George Town, and the grocery stores, plus a free beach shuttle.
The beach out front is on the North Sound and is firmer and less sandy than Seven Mile Beach, so most guests head to Seven Mile Beach for swimming.
Even though it’s not the one if you want soft sand at your door, it’s a great fit if you’ll have a rental car, want a calm base, and are using IHG points.
Other Areas to Stay in Grand Cayman
Seven Mile Beach is where I’d start, but here’s the rest of the island in a few lines.
- George Town: The capital and cruise port. Busy and fun by day, quiet at night, and the best sand can be about a 30-minute walk away, so I wouldn’t stay here for a beach trip without a car.
- West Bay: More local and less touristy, about 5 minutes drive from Hotel Indigo, and home to the Cayman Turtle Centre. A couple of our favorite meals were here (see where to eat).
- East End and North Side: Quieter, more remote, and you’ll want a car. We drove to East End for a Sunday fish fry and I’d do it again, but I wouldn’t make either my only base on a first trip. The beaches are less well-kept in these areas.

Where to snorkel (you don’t have to stay there): Cemetery Beach at the north end of Seven Mile Beach and Spotts Beach (green sea turtles) are both easy by car. Stingray City is reached by boat from the North Sound, so you don’t need to stay near it. More details on that can be found in our Grand Cayman itinerary.
Best Places to Stay in Grand Cayman by Traveler Type
Best Hotels to Stay in Grand Cayman for First-Timers
Seven Mile Beach is the easiest place to start, since it has the best beach and the most hotels and restaurants. Which hotel fits depends on how you’ll get around:
- Walking to Camana Bay and dinner: The Marriott (beachfront), The Locale, or Hampton by Hilton, all in the middle of the strip.
- A calmer base, if you’ll have a rental car: Hotel Indigo, which is where we stayed, or the Kimpton Seafire if you want to be beachfront.
Best Hotels in Grand Cayman for Couples
We’re a married couple, so this is the category we know best.
We loved the quieter northern stretch: Hotel Indigo for the rooftop bar, or the Kimpton Seafire if you want the sand at your door.
The Ritz-Carlton suits a milestone trip, and The Locale still feels like a getaway on a budget.

Best Places to Stay in Grand Cayman With Kids
We don’t have kids, but we’d start with the Marriott (pool, kids’ club for an extra fee, walkable to Camana Bay).
The Ritz-Carlton has kids’ programming, and Sunshine Suites gives you a kitchen, which helps with meals and nap schedules.
I’d lean beachfront, since the sand outside your door makes snack runs and sunscreen refreshes easier.
How Many Days Do You Need in Grand Cayman?
Four to five nights is the sweet spot for a first trip.
We spent five days and it felt right. We toured the Crystal Caves, hopped between beaches, ate at lots of restaurants, took a boat tour to Stingray City, and met up with our local Caymanian friend, who took us to some lesser-visited spots all over the island.

See our Grand Cayman itinerary for the full breakdown and our where to eat guide for what we ate.
With two or three nights, you’ll fit in a beach day, an excursion or two, and a couple of good dinners.
With six or more, the quieter sides of the island, like Rum Point and East End, start to make sense.
And if you’re using IHG points, aim for four nights, since the fourth is free.
How to Save on a Grand Cayman Hotel (and What to Check Before You Book)
- Use points. Our four nights at Hotel Indigo were the biggest saving of the trip.
- Compare the total, not the nightly rate. The 13% accommodation tax and a daily resort fee add up. Ours was added even on a points stay.
- Stay a few minutes from the beach instead of on it. Beach-access hotels usually cost noticeably less.
- Pick free breakfast or a kitchen. Dining out adds up here.
- Confirm which water the hotel is on. The Holiday Inn Resort is on the North Sound, not Seven Mile Beach, though it runs free shuttles to the beach.
- Consider traveling outside peak winter. Rates tend to drop, but hurricane season runs June through November, so book a refundable rate and consider travel insurance.
FAQ: Staying in Grand Cayman
What are the best places to stay in Grand Cayman? Seven Mile Beach for most first-timers. Hotel Indigo (beach access, great with points), Kimpton Seafire (beachfront), the Ritz-Carlton (splurge), and Hampton by Hilton or The Locale (budget).
Where should I stay in the Cayman Islands? Grand Cayman is the island we know. It has the most hotels and the main airport, and we’d stay on the northern stretch of Seven Mile Beach.
What’s the best area for first-time visitors? Seven Mile Beach. The middle is the most walkable and busiest. The northern stretch is calmer, but means a car or taxi for Camana Bay.
Is Hotel Indigo on the beach? No. It’s a short walk to Seven Mile Beach, and guests can use Bonny Moon Beach Club. The Kimpton Seafire next door is the beachfront option.
Is Hotel Indigo worth it? For us, yes. Four nights cost points plus the resort fee, and the northern stretch of Seven Mile Beach was a great base. If you need to wake up on the sand, book a beachfront hotel.
Can I use IHG points in Grand Cayman? Yes: Holiday Inn Resort, Hotel Indigo, and Kimpton Seafire. IHG cardholders get the fourth night free on award stays of four nights or more.
How many points does Hotel Indigo cost? It varies by date because IHG prices award nights dynamically. You can expect to pay a median of 50k points per night at Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman, but could be more depending on the season.

How many days do you need? Four to five nights for a first trip.

Final Tips on Choosing Where to Stay in Grand Cayman
Looking back, I’d book Hotel Indigo again. The concierge team was warm, helpful, and fun, and they made us feel right at home, and I loved the look of the whole property.

The beach was close enough that it still felt like a beach vacation (I could see it clearly from my balcony), and the pool had plenty of loungers, so nothing ever felt crowded.
The one thing I’d change is making time for Bonny Moon Beach Club.
