Spirit has a free loyalty program known as the Free Spirit program.
Some ways that you can regularly earn points in the Free Spirit Program include:
- Booking Spirit flights
- Rent cars through qualifying rental companies
- Shop through the Spirit online shopping portals
- Spending with Spirit-branded credit cards
When you sign up for the Free Spirit program, you’ll receive a membership number. This membership number is important to keep track of your membership earnings.
The more points that you earn within the Free Spirit program, the higher status you achieve. With higher status, more perks are available to you.
Spirit Airlines has silver and gold status. So how do you earn status with Spirit Airlines?
Silver status is earned with a minimum of 2,000 status qualifying points earned, or about $2,000 USD spent on base fare flight tickets within one year.
Gold status is earned with a minimum of 5,000 status qualifying points earned, or about $5,000 USD spent on base fare flight tickets within one year.

For $49 USD, you can achieve Free Spirit Silver Status. This gives you access to a host of valuable perks including:

If you want to level up even further, you can pay $99 USD to get Free Spirt top-tier Gold Status. The gold status gives you exclusive access to everything included in silver status plus:

- Free carry-on bag
- Free drink and snack onboard
- Zone 1 boarding
- Free Flight Flex
- Pet fee waiver
- Group 2/3/4/5 seat selection at purchase
Once you get either the silver or gold status, it is valid for 12 months!

Anyone with a Free Spirit membership number can apply for the Spirit Airlines Status match.

How to Get the Spirit Airlines Status Match?
First you’ll need to be a Free Spirit member. This is easy, and free. Just sign up for the Free Spirit membership here.
Once you have your Free Spirit membership, grab your membership number and the email address that you used to create the account.
Have proof of your status with one of the qualifying major airlines or major hotel brands. Then head to the Spirit Airlines status match website to apply.
Within five business days (many times much sooner), you’ll receive an e-mail notification to inform you of approval or denial into the status match program.
If you currently do not have status at any qualifying airline or hotel, you can achieve status with relative ease through credit card perks.
This is a tactic for travelers who are responsible with their credit.
It’s NEVER a good idea to go into debt for travel to earn these points and rewards.
But, maximizing your everyday spending and any large purchases by using the right travel credit card can offer incredible travel perks.
Not all travel credit cards are created equally. Some have higher annual fees, and some have perks that may be more useful to some than others.

If the $450 USD annual fee is way out of budget for you, there’s another way to easily earn status with Hilton.
Hilton gold status comes with the Hilton Surpass AMEX card that has a lower annual fee at $95 USD.
Both Hilton Diamond status and Hilton Gold status match to Spirit Gold status.
When you apply for the Spirit Airlines status match, you can only for the tier you are eligible for.
For instance, if you had Hilton silver status, you would only be eligible for a match to Spirit Silver Status, and not the Spirit Gold Status.
