Cusco’s elevation sitting at over 11,000 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level was immediately evident as I took my first breaths stepping off the plane from Lima.
But I was prepared for the challenge, as many remedies were readily available in Peru to help with altitude sickness (similar to Quito altitude sickness).
One of the highlights of my exploration in Cusco was undoubtedly the culinary journey.
The city boasts a vibrant food scene that combines traditional flavors with modern twists at top-ranked restaurants.
As I continued to explore Cusco, I was so impressed at every turn.
The city’s rich history was on full display in its architecture, with well-preserved colonial buildings and ancient Inca ruins coexisting.
During my exploration, I couldn’t resist the adorable alpaca photo-ops. They were a common sight on the streets of Cusco, often seen strolling around with their owners.

Maras Salt Mines and Moray
We decided to take on this exciting adventure with Willka Travel on ATVs.
But don't worry if you've never ridden an ATV before – they gave us a quick lesson at the beginning to ensure everyone in our group felt comfortable.
You don't need any prior experience to enjoy this.
Our journey began as we cruised along the Sacred Valley, with our first stop being at Moray.

The ride to Moray can be a bit dusty, but you don’t have to worry about riding dirty.
Once we completed the first half of our tour on the ATVs, Willka Travel had us covered.

We then hopped into their van and headed over to the Maras Salt Mines, which are truly a remarkable sight!
